What is it?

What is it is a glossary of common and not-so-common terms and definitions associated with retirement, care giving and disability. There may seem to be an “alphabet soup” of acronyms used among professionals that are confusing to decipher or technical language, making the simplest of concepts seem complex.

Our team has collected and compiled hundreds of definitions from retirement professionals and care providers. Attention has been focused specifically on housing, legal, insurance, medical, Medicare and Medicaid terminology. We have also included definitions for words or topics that are used on this website.

The terms are organized in alphabetical order, with an A to Z search feature. If a term is commonly referred to by an acronym, it is listed both by acronym and proper name: Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF), Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC), Power of Attorney (POA), Durable Medical Equipment (DME) are a few examples. We hope this resource relieves some confusion and stress.
