Going Green ... The Movement to e-Publications

Provided by: The Staff at www.RetirementConnection.com

When Congress passed the Government Paperwork Elimination Act in 1998, the country was just considering the implications and movement into a supposed "paper-less" government and society. Fast forward to today and there is still need for paper copies; however, the movement towards being paperless is gaining incredible momentum year-by-year. Consider how common it is to e-file taxes, apply for a trademark, present an /signature/ and download the current Medicare handbook. These are just a few examples of e-publications from the federal government.

Most of these files are available online in a format called "PDF". PDF stands for Adobe Portable Document Format® (PDF). This file format was invented by Adobe® Systems and perfected over many years. The PDF format allows people who create e-books to save them in a format that can be shared on different computer system and posted on the Internet on websites for download. Individuals, businesses and government groups have begun to consider the PDF as instrumental in sharing files over the Internet. The PDF reader file is shareware and anyone can download a copy for free.

The following links are to PDF e-publications on government websites. The files listed are all e-publications with information for older adults. Some files are quite large and so may be a longer download for people using dial-up Internet access. The important point is the fact that these PDF e-publications are available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. This is the true power of the Internet!
