10 Things About Medicare

10 Things You Should Know About Medicare.

Medicare can be complicated and overwhelming for many, but it doesn’t have to be for you.  It’s important to understand your options, and choose a plan that works best for your unique situation and budget.  There are experts available to answer your questions, and help you get started.

1) Know the enrollment restrictions.

There is an Annual Enrollment Period, also called AEP, with enrollment beginning November 15th and ending December 31st each year.  Anyone that is eligible for Medicare Part A and enrolled in Medicare Part B is eligible to choose a new plan during this season.  Other enrollment times are available in different times of the year.

2) Know the difference between Medicare Parts A & B.

Medicare Part A covers Hospital, Skilled Nursing, Facility, Home Health, and Hospice.  Medicare Part B covers Physicians and Outpatient hospital services and durable medical equipment.

3) Know your premiums and requirements.

Members are required to continue to pay Part B premiums regardless of which Advantage plan they choose.

4) Know the plans provider network.

If you are willing to change providers or do not have a relationship with a provider, look at the plans Provider Directory to find a provider near you that may be a good fit for your needs.

5) Know your maximum out of pocket expenses.

Maximum out of pocket is a very important benefit that protects you from high medical costs.

6) Know what medications your plan covers.

Make sure that your medications are covered or check with your doctor to see if there are alternatives to your current medications.

7) Know what resources are available for getting your questions answered.

Some plans have more experienced customer service.  Be sure to feel comfortable with the plan that you choose.

8) Know your plan’s extra benefits.

Some plans offer extra benefits such as; dental, vision, hearing, and alternative care.

9) Know what plan works best for you.

What works for your friend may not work for you, and it’s okay to enroll in different plan than your spouse.  It’s important to select a plan with benefits that are right for you.

10) Know that you have a local expert willing to walk you through the whole process.

Although there are national options, there is local help with a health plan that’s right for you and your budget.
